About CISANET
Our History
The Civil Society Agriculture Network (CISANET) is a grouping of civil society organizations established in 2001 to facilitate the engagement of CSOs working in the agriculture sector with Government over policy issues affecting the agriculture. CISANET’s membership comprises local and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), farmer organizations and interested individuals.
Why CISANET was formed
CISANET was formed to respond to a need that became apparent after the onset of the multiparty democracy and also the development of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper in 2000. These recognized the civil society as a partner of Government to support successful implementation of its programs by providing necessary independent checks and balances and also supporting Government in the agriculture sector.
Our Mandate
To provide leadership in policy advocacy among non-state actors in the agriculture sector. We provide space for non-state actors (NSAs) working or interested in the agriculture sector to constructively engage the Government to policy influence that positively impacts agricultural production and productivity, marketing as well as food and nutrition security.
Vision
To be a leading Network that effectively coordinates and fosters collaboration among non-state actors towards Malawi’s agricultural transformation.
Mission
Promote agricultural development and sustainable livelihoods for the rural poor by influencing desired change in policies, practices and attitudes of Government, donors, civil society and other stakeholders through effective and results focused advocacy, research and Networking.

Elizabeth Namaona
Elizabeth Namaona is a seasoned international development expert with over 5 years of experience in agricultural policy, programming, and advocacy, specializing in gender, climate change, sustainable development, and governance. She has a proven track record of developing and implementing effective strategies, driving successful programs, and enhancing organizational reputation. With experience working with international NGOs, local NGOs, networks, and policy think tanks, Elizabeth has engaged in the African Union’s CAADP process, contributing to increased national investment in nutrition and food systems. She holds an MSc in Africa and International Development from the University of Edinburgh and a BSc in Gender and Development from LUANAR, with work experience spanning Africa (Malawi, Madagascar, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) and Europe (UK).

Edwin Munthali is an accomplished Agricultural Economist with over five years of experience in the NGO sector, he specialized in Monitoring and Evaluation, Research, and Science Writing. Edwin’s expertise extends to Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Policy Analysis, advocating for evidence-based policies to enhance food security and equitable access to nutritious diets. He is also passionate about food systems transformation research and governance.

Programs Officer – Coordinating the Strengthening Rural Governance for the Right to Adequate Food for All Project
He is an experienced, result-oriented, and highly motivated Trained Food Technologist and seasoned Project Manager. He has accumulated over 11 years progressive experience working in food value chains in the public, private, and development sectors, encompassing standards development, value addition and processing, providing capacity building to both private sector and project stakeholders, coordinating stakeholders and partners (including the Right to Food Coalition), and in policy analysis and advocacy for food and nutrition security, and the realization of the Right to Adequate Food for all. Robert has vast knowledge of Malawi’s food systems, the operational environment, and the challenges faced by the common citizen, and is passionate about improving livelihoods of people, hence his full commitment in the work he does.

I am focused and self-motivated with strong planning and organizational skills, customer relationship management and negotiation skills, monitoring and evaluation skills, leadership skills and contributes to creative solutions to address challenging situations. In addition, I am a team player, logical thinker and I am ready to learn, adapt and promote new ethical standards while maintaining high levels of integrity and professionalism.

Tinamwabi Mumba is a dedicated nutritionist and project officer with a Bachelor of Science in food and nutrition from the University of Malawi. She has two years’ experience in research, FNS programing and advocacy focusing on improving nutrition and food security outcomes. She is passionate about driving sustainable change in Malawi’s agriculture and nutrition sectors through evidence-based policy advocacy and research. She is particularly interested in sustainable agriculture and agri-food systems transformation for a resilient and healthy future. As an active member of the Rotaract Club of Lilongwe and the African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), she is committed to putting service above self and empowering women especially in the workspace. She welcomes every opportunity to collaborate with likeminded professionals who aim to create lasting positive impact on the communities they serve.
