CISANET and FANRPAN Join Forces to Shape Africa's Agri-Food Future
The FANRPAN Regional Multi-Stakeholder Policy Dialogue and CISANET Policy Conference was held from 6th to 9th August 2024 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC). The conference comprised four days of dynamic discussions and collaborative problem-solving to develop transformative policy changes.
The CISANET Flagship Annual Agriculture Policy Conference was held alongside the FANRPAN Annual Regional Multi-Stakeholder Policy Dialogue, bringing together participants from across Africa to tackle pressing issues in the region’s agri-food systems. This landmark event aimed to:
– Boost Agricultural Productivity: Explore innovative policy frameworks, strategies, and actions to enhance agricultural productivity, sustainability, and resilience ¹.
– Harness Digital Innovation: Discuss the transformative role of digital technologies, innovation, and research in agri-food systems.
– Support Vulnerable Groups: Analyze the socio-economic implications of policy interventions on smallholder farmers, rural communities, and marginalized groups.
– Foster Regional Collaboration: Promote knowledge exchange among policymakers, researchers, and agriculture and food systems practitioners.
The Malawi Day segment of the conference focused on strategies to permanently address food insecurity in Malawi. Key stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, and practitioners, converged to share expertise and chart a course for a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector.
Notably, this conference marked FANRPAN’s return to Malawi after a 16-year hiatus ². The event’s success was a testament to the collaborative efforts of CISANET, FANRPAN, and other partners. By convening such dialogues, these organizations are driving meaningful policy reforms and shaping the future of Africa’s agri-food systems.
