On March 11, 2025, CISANET hosted a Food Systems Governance Workshop at Crossroads Hotel, bringing together some members to explore governance structures, trade-offs in food systems transformation, and strategies for sustainable change.
During the workshop, the National Planning Commission emphasized the need for strong coordination among stakeholders to drive food systems transformation. A national level food systems governance framework was discussed as a structure to strengthen multi-stakeholder coordination in the food systems dialogue.
Participants explored trade-offs in food systems transformation such as economic growth vs affordability, sustainability vs productivity, and global trade vs. local food systems. Discussions on evidence-based decision-making and the Pareto efficiency concept to ensure equitable resource allocation.
Transformation pathways were explore focusing on agriculture diversification, irrigation expansion and women empowerment. Participants stressed context-specific strategies to enhance resilience and mitigate climate risks.
As an outcome, CISANET and its members will develop a Food Systems Governance Position Paper, with consultations and validation meetings in the coming weeks.
