CISANET meets Parliamentary Committees

CISANET today organised a meeting at Linde Motel in Mponela to engage the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and the Parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance. The key objectives of the meeting are to discuss:
1. Trends in budgetary allocation for the past three national budgets
2. Agriculture budget allocation and utilization across Agriculture intra-sectoral areas.
3.2024/25 Agriculture sector budget allocation and its implications
4. Advocate for the realization of the right to food and food security.

Madam Rejoice Chikakuda the NASFAM Head of Policy and the CISANET Vice Board Chair gave opening remarks and encouraged stakeholders including members of Parliament to balance allocation within the sector to include extension services, research and markets among other things.

Honourable Ulemu Chilapondwa, the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, also gave his remarks acknowledging the gap with regards to financing within the sector and has called on all stakeholders to move beyond policy discussions to action.
